I am based in Durban North in a new refurbished 72 square meter first floor studio. Classes will be starting once again from 1 August 2009.
Here are some details you may want to know before contacting me.
Classes
I teach predominantly in watercolour; natural history subjects namely botanical art and illustration, birds, bugs, animals, etc.
Who Should Attend?
My classes are for total beginners and intermediates who have just wanted a firm foundation on which to start or skilled people who simply want some kind of guidance and direction and to try something new such as those with a tertiary art education but wanted to hone their skills in watercolour or another medium or techniques.
I must make special mention of the three stars who have gone that extra mile and where passion and drive of their for their work keeps them ever striving to greater levels of skill and expression. To them I say keep going ,you are trail blazers in what you do. They are:
Tessa Dean- a Textile Designer with the KZN Wildflower Portfolio.
Wilna Leyden- a South African Botanical Art gold medalist.
Linda Hampson- a South African silver and bronze medalist. She is a brilliant coloured pencil artist and teacher, now based in Howick.
Please book well in advance.
Who Should Not Attend
People who don't like dogs. My dogs are well behaved and are an integral part of everything here. I do not lock them up.
About Me In Short
I am not short... I am both big in character and stature. I am passionate, enthusiastic
and driven. I am a " lets dive in and get the job done now" kind of guy.
I have been trained by several local and overseas artists, attending classes overseas from time to time and exhibit as well as do commissioned works.
What Is My teaching Style?
I adopt a structured approach... typically a three hour class on a Saturday includes an hour of theory, a series of demonstrations which I expect you to follow thereafter.
I am a passionate teacher and take my teaching very seriously. My classes are very well prepared.
My classes are an enjoyable journey, from a strong foundation of theory through various mediums in order for you to establish a style of your own and choice of medium.
About My Studio
My studio is a spacious and comfortable space surrounded by an indigenous garden- a work in progress. It has a sun deck overlooking tree tops which is used for tea and smoke break breaks. The studio has bathroom and kitchen facilities - all within the studio space,
and a plethora of equipment like lamps, plant stands etc... everything you need is there.
There is adequate, safe parking on the premises.
Art Materials
I have a list of art materials that you will need so don't go buy tons of stuff and break the bank before the class begins.
I can also supply most of the materials so please ontact me for a list.
At your disposal is a modest number of animal, plant, insect identification reference books and other materials.
Cost
