John Smith has been a Professional/Career Artist for 37 years, and over and above that he has taught privately for 30 years, been an activist for the wellbeing of artists and for the improvement of standards in the Visual Arts in KZN for as many years. John has been writing on Art Matters in his monthly articles under the title of "Thoughts from my Studio" for 8 years. He is a painter in Oils, Watercolour and Pastels in a traditional manner. John was a founder member of the WSSA, also founding member of VANSA (Served on the NEC for many years as well as the KZN Committee), NACSA, KWAZUNVA and Arts Interactive. He also served on the Council of the KZNSA and headed the Membership/Transformation Committee, as well as serving on various other committees. An artist totally committed to the Visual arts in its many forms.
