I am going to feather this nest with my drawings, vintage plastic trinkets, postcards, strange folk tales, charms, ephemera (mmm mysterious), swans, bears, bambi's and glass beads. I bought this beautiful sielulintu bird from MINT a little while ago. It is a ceramic relief mould tray made by Robert Jefferson as part of the Clariceware, Poole Pottery, Spring Time Collection of 1964. It has a sister piece that is a wall plaque in a rather crazy dark blue glaze - there is also a fish and a knife.

Scandi Love is my ode to all things Scandi - fabric, furniture, kitchenware, Orla Kiely, Skinny Laminx, Sanna Annukka, Carolyn Gavin, Jane Foster. In Finnish pagan mythology it was believed that a bird brings the soul to a newborn baby, and that the same bird takes the soul with it when the person dies. This soul-carrying bird was called sielulintu, "soul-bird". (Thanks Wikipedia!). This illustration is an archival print available on Hannemuller paper.R2 500 unframed (excl. postage & packaging). 297 x 420 mm. An edition of 5.
