Artists of KZN
Richard Hart
Richard Hart is a Durban-based graphic designer. After dismally failing his first year of college, he spent an entire December pondering design and his 18-year-old life. Three years later he was awarded a scholarship to study abroad. He returned to South Africa in 1997 and soon opened Disturbance Design in Durban, in partnership with his sister Susie.
Hart sees creating art as a wonderful indulgence to be enjoyed as much as possible, with his focus being on doing what comes naturally.
Aesthetically his work references the visual vernacular of popular youth culture, bringing to mind the work of artists such as Mark Ryden, Rita Ackermann, Aya Takano and Yoshitomo Nara.
